Slice Of Life #285 - Novel Knockout - Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020

I clicked the mint green "Join" button. Here goes nothing, I thought to myself. The teams were being shown on the screen. The moment I saw the sign, I knew our team was in for some trouble.
Zhao Yang (ZY), Maya, and Wesley on one team?!  I thought to myself. Of course they are - and they're probably going to dominate if I'm just being honest...
I met with my team and we started the Kahoot. Today's competition was multiple choice, and we were competing as a group against other students in our school for some Kinokunia/Amazon gift vouchers.
The competition was very hard. The fact that all the books were novels (except for 1 book) didn't help at all. Longer books meant more detail, and more detail wasn't a good thing, especially when the competition required you to remember all the details of the book.
Overall, I thought the competition was okay. Some questions were brain boggling and simply left me dumbstruck, whereas others were very easy. Fortunately, they were multiple-choice questions, so we managed to answer most of the answers correctly.
I still remember how I felt when I looked at the scoreboard. I did not feel confident. Just as expected, ZY's team was crushing us. However, after a while, we were hot on their tails. As we entered the last 10 questions, we knew we couldn't let them win. We went into full tryhard mode and answered the questions to the best of the ability (not that we weren't doing so before). Fortunately, our hard work paid off. We saw our points get higher and higher until our group name finally skimmed past theirs. WE WERE IN 1ST PLACE!
But I knew we had to keep maintaining that lead. This group was good, and they could steal our lead anytime. And fortunately again, we were able to do that. The last few questions went by like a blur, and finally, it was time to see the final score for the first section of the competition. My heart thumped loudly. I shivered even though it wasn't cold as I waited for the final score to come out. Finally, 1st place was revealed - IT WAS OUR TEAM! I shrieked with joy and lay down on the floor. We were in the lead - at least for now...

Slice Of Life #230 - Escape Room - Tuesday, September 17th, 2019

I heard the woman lock the door. "Ok guys," I said to my friends. "What's the first thing we have to do?"
"I don't know." There were numerous replies saying the same thing.
"Wait, what's that supposed to mean?" Tiago said, pointing to an inscription on the wall.
"Oh, yeah!" Leo said. "What does that mean?"
"Wait," Adam pointed to the side of a large block. "There are signs and letters on the block!"
"Wait! The signs are the same as the signs on the inscription!" Julian said.
After a while of trying to decipher what the inscription meant, we realized that it was telling us to cover the eyes, which were on both sides of the door.
We covered the eyes, but nothing happened. We called the lady with the phone she had gave us to ask her about why nothing was happening. She told us that because we didn't want to be separated, there was no effect. If we wanted to be separated (by the door), the door would open if the eyes were covered.
We went back behind the door to try to decipher the code behind it. There were 2 different sets of codes. We found 4 pictures in sets of 2 each. Each set was locked with a combination lock. After a while of deciphering (again...), we managed to find the code for each of the locks.
We put the pictures on the large blocks with the names of the Egyptian Gods. Each picture was a depiction of the Gods, so we put them according to their names on the stilts. But nothing happened.
Then, we received a call telling us that we had to hang them up. And so, we did just that. As soon as we finished hanging the pictures up, a mechanical box opened. Inside it was a feather.
"Wait!" Tiago exclaimed. There was a picture of the Egyptian God of the Dead, Anubis. There was also a weighing scale with blocks by the end of the ropes. "That goes on the weighing scale!"
"Yeah!" I said, agreeing with him. "If a person's soul was heavier than a feather, then the person would go to hell. If a person's soul was lighter than a feather, then the person would ascend into heaven."
"But why isn't the 2nd box opened?" Leo asked.
"Maybe because you didn't put it in correctly?" He asked sarcastically.
I went and repositioned the picture. Suddenly, the 2nd box started opening. Inside the box was a heart.
"I told you!" Tiago said happily. We put the heart on another block. But nothing happened.
Then, we received a call from the woman. "Change the sides of the feather and heart," She told us.
After we changed the sides of the feather and heart, a cabinet started opening.
"Hey!" I shouted. "These are the heads of the Egyptian Gods! I think that we're supposed to put their heads on the stilts!"
We put the heads on the stilts, but nothing happened. Adam went to grab the broken picture and  "English Dictionary" (the dictionary was locked) to see if we could do anything with it.
We received another call from the woman. "Try pushing something big." She told us.
Julian pushed something that looked like a door disguised as a wall. It spun open.
I looked inside. It was dark and (somewhat) creepy. I looked at one of my friends. He looked scared. "Look, I know the music never helps, but we're going to get out of here." Tiago assured him.
We found a box inside the dark room, which unfortunately, was locked. We also found a key. The key looked like it could open the "English Dictionary". Inside the "English Dictionary", we found two magnets.
"Maybe the locks for this box are magnetic!" Tiago said.
We put the magnets on top of painted keyholes, and the box opened. We found the combination to a combination lock in the box. There was also a coffin in the shape of a pharaoh. There was another combination lock on it. We managed to open the lock, but couldn't open the coffin. We then recieved a call from the woman. She told us to "blow out the candles". We did just that and opened the door. There was a curtain. We shoved the curtain aside, and the coffin introduced us to the exit of the room.

The Swimming Carnival/Wet 'n Wild

I heard the beep of Coach Jorge's whistle and got up on the blocks.
I steadied myself, putting my strong leg, my right leg, at the back so I would be able to get a decent head start.
"On your marks," Coach Jorge said. I put my hands down by the blocks and tightened my body.
"GO!" Coach Jorge shouted. I blasted off and dove into the water. We were swimming freestyle, and I knew that lots of people in my heat were pretty fast when it came to freestyle.
Kick! Kick! I thought to myself, frantically pulling my arms back and fourth, trying to reach the finish line first.
I saw the flags in front of me, telling me that there were 5 more meters to go. I kicked and pulled my hands and legs even harder. I slammed my hand on the finish line. Yes! I had came 2nd out of the 25 meter freestyle race. A teacher gave me a wristband. A wristband was what the P.E. department gave us every year as a compliment for finishing the race.
I opened the gate and headed outside for the next activity - wet and wild. Because I was given the number 2 by Mr. Ross, I headed to the slip and slide, which was the first activity my group (group 2) was going to do. Chris went first, and I went next. I ran and fell on my belly, sliding on the soap on the slip and slide.
Our next activity was a game where we were given a container with holes in it. We were supposed to cover the holes with our teammates and get the water in the container to another bucket, where we would empty the container. We then ran back to fill the container with water again, covered the holes, and brought the water to the other bucket. The team with the most water in the container then won. Our team tied with another team for 1st place.
Next, we went to an activity where we had a few sponges. We were to fill the sponge with water, then run to another bucket to release the water in the sponge. Then, another teammate would run to fill the bucket with water as we ran back to pass the sponge to another person. Overall, we got 2nd place.
After that, we got to eat snacks. Each person was allowed one bag of popcorn and one popsicle. Overall, I thought that today was a meaningful day of exercise. We all had a lot of fun. It was a great day.

Slice Of Life #213 - Band Concert - Tuesday, May 14th, 2019

We all quietly filed onto the stage. I clutched my clarinet tight. Looking up towards the audience, I could see lots of eyes staring down at us. I heard the Gamelan players play songs beside me.
I carefully took my seat on the chair and opened my file. My friend, Aidan, took out the pieces that we were going to play for the concert. Then, we put our clarinets in rest position.
I watched as Leo and Sahana walked towards the podium. "Welcome to the Grade 5 band's portion of tonight's performance. Thank you for coming."
They were telling the audience about our first selection for tonight. After they finished talking, my band teacher waited until they were ready. Then, she checked the percussion section to make sure that they were ready.
Ms. Endel, my music teacher's, hands went up. My instrument went up to my face. And with 4 swift movements of her hands, I took a deep breath and started to play.
After 4 measures, the rest of the band joined in. Not after long, we finished the song. Then, we started playing the woodwind features. The flutists played a short part of the Nutcracker, our oboist played the Snake Charmer, the clarinetists played The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and the saxophones played Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
After that, we played Dance of the Jabberwocky. Then, the brass section and percussionists played a few songs.
Finally, we played The Tempest. We had been learning how to play our instruments for a year now, and we were now ready. I watched my music teacher's hands move quickly. I took a deep breath and played a deep, concentrated sound.
The song lasted for about 2 minutes. At the end of the song, we all stood up. Everyone clapped for us. They clapped for about 20 seconds (and I'm not exaggerating).
Our principal, Ms. Julie, came up onto the stage to say a few words. After she was done, we all walked off the stage with delight. I smiled, knowing that our parents were obviously amazed.
I smiled and stepped off the stage.

A Meaningful Night

My heart was beating fast as I walked to the front of the stage. With confidence, I said my first line, loud and clear.
    "So, what's next?"
My friends replied me, saying their lines. And soon enough, we were off, swiftly saying our lines.
Not after long, we reached the conclusion.
"So the next time you use single-use plastics, think about the next 10 generations after us." I said.
"'Cause these problems keep getting bigger and bigger." Linnea said.
"And when these problems actually strike, the whole world will be in crisis." Karen said.
"So please, when it's child labor or plastic pollution, go home and reconsider all this now." I said.
"Because if we don't you'll find out soon enough that we're destroying what we call," Karen said.
"Home, sweet, home." We all said together.
I heard footsteps behind me as my classmates all stumbled to the front of the stage.
I heard Linnea's 1st foot tap, signalling for us to get ready.
And as soon as she was done with her 3rd foot tap, we took a deep breath and started to speak.
"BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION AND NOT THE POLLUTION, BECAUSE US KIDS, DESERVE A BETTER FUTURE!" We all shouted together.
The audience clapped and cheered. "Nice job, kids!" I heard Ms. Schneider say as we filed off the stage.
Success! I thought as I walked back to my seat.
We had planned this performance for a long time now, and after a month of hard work, we had finally put it into action. The Night of the Notables performance was not over. The Night of the Notables performance was a performance that Grade 5 did every year. The performance was performed for the parents.
Karen, me, and Linnea (from left to right)
For the performance, the students would split into groups and do some research. After that, we used our own words and eventually made a script. From this experience, I thought that I was able to use my writing skills for a good cause.
I think that memorizing my lines was somewhat challenging for me. I don't really know why this was a challenge for me, but after a while of practicing and checking my lines again and again, I was able to overcome my challenge and memorize my lines.
There were also a few things that I learned about myself because of this performance. I learned that I had a better imagination than I expected because I was able to use my writing skills to make meaningful lines for the performance.
From watching from the other performances, I realized everyone was able to project their voices so that everyone could hear what they said. I also learned a lot about child labor and animal testing because the other classes were able to confer their information pretty well to the audience.
I wouldn't change anything about the performance because I thought everyone did pretty well.
I think that I will take a few actions because of the ideas presented at the Night of the Notables performance. I will try to use less plastic and only buy products that do not use animal testing.
Night of the Notables is a performance that Grade 5 makes every year. And from this performance, we help make the world a better place. If every school in the world did this, the world would be an amazing and peaceful place.
Because us kids, deserve a better future! Because if this continues, kids in the future generations won't know the true definition of a future. Because they won't have a future.

Slice Of Life #212 - NOVEL KNOCKOUT! - Tuesday, May 7th, 2019

The cold air of the library hit me straight in the face. "Good luck," Mr. Herbert said to us.
I looked around the library. Nervous energy immediately filled my body. I wasn't expecting this.
I had already knew that we were going to be competing against 21 teams, but it didn't really occur to me in my brain that with 21 teams came a whole lot of people.
"Over here," Ms. Suji, our librarian, called over to us.
We went over to a corner in the library. "I have a few things to do, so help quiz each other."
My friend, Aadit, opened up a book and started quizzing me on it. I looked at my teammates. They were already being quizzed by other people.
After a while, Ms. Suji came back to us again. We were going to be going to the Melawati Theater soon to take part of the Novel Knockout competition. The competition was organized by KLLN (Kuala Lumpur Library Network). Because of that, there were many schools coming to compete, all striving to become the champion of Novel Knockout.
In the Novel Knockout competition, we were asked a variety of extremely detailed questions from 8 different (selected) books. It was a team "sport", as some people would "specialize" in a few books and memorize the details in them. The team would then compete together, as a team and answer all the questions. I had previously finished all the 8 books and was ready for the competition. I had worked extremely hard for this, and really hoped to get 1st place this year.
Our elementary school Novel Knockout competition was first.
"And finally... Please welcome, ISKL, the International School of Kuala Lumpur!" The commentator said.
I took a deep breath and walked to the front of the auditorium.
For about a few minutes, the commentator explained and clarified a few things for us competitors.

We started the Ipad questions. The first few questions were pretty easy. After only a few seconds, 10 questions were to be answered on a piece of paper. These questions were worth 1 point, but if you wrote down an answer close to the correct answer but not descriptive enough, you could get 1/2 a point.
The Ipad questions were multiple choice questions, so you could at least get some questions correct if you were lucky enough if you didn't know the correct answer.
Some of the questions on the Ipad and the questions on the paper were the same, which was a real lifesaver, because it always provided us with the correct answer when we didn't know the answer.
After the elementary teams competed, we watched the secondary teams compete. The commentator would also ask trivia questions to the audience, and if we answered the trivia questions correctly, we would be able to get a KitKat and/or a free book.
After a while, the results came out. 5th place was announced first. My heart was beating fast. I was literally shivering. I really wanted to get 1st place this year.
"And in 2nd place..." The commentator said. We waited. "Is ISKL 2!"
"Yes!" I yelled with happiness. I quickly went to the front of the auditorium to claim my prize, a book voucher.
I clutched the envelope that contained the book voucher in it tightly. I had worked hard for the competition, and finally, we did it.

Slice of Life #206 - Novel Knockout - Thursday, April 25th, 2019

I'm in the car right now going back home. I'm just back from my Novel Knockout after school activity. Novel Knockout is a competition about books that my school participates in every year. Each year, there are two teams that get selected to represent the school in the competition.
Last year, my team got 3rd place. This year, we're hoping to get 1st place.
My team is getting better and better, which is good. We have a few books that each person specializes in. Today, we took a test in teams. Because Chloe, one of my teammates was not there, we substituted her for Edwin, our team's backup.
Our team managed to get the most questions right, so we were happy about that.
We're getting ready and progressing fast! More updates are to come! Bye!

Slice Of Life #133 - When A Car Meets A Motorcycle - Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 - Happened on Sunday, September 16th, 2018`

The car wheels screeched as the car made a stop. "Woah..." My dad said. I sat up. Staring out the window, I could see that a car had crashed into a motorcycle, but it wasn't any normal crash. The bumpers of the car were ripped into 2 pieces, and the motorcycle was reduced to shreds.
My dad stopped the car at the side of a restaurant. My dad rushed to help. I could clearly see that the people helping the seriously-injured-covered-with-blood-man were asking for more tissues from the neighboring restaurant, which probably meant that the man was losing blood quick.
When I was finally able to get a closer view of the person, I could see that his white shirt was smeared with blood. A few men were using packs of tissues to try and stop his blood loss.
I was wondering why nobody was going to the nearby hospital, which was literally less than 100 meters away. After about 1 minute, me, my mom, and my dad went to the nearby hospital to seek help. Apparently we had to wait for a freaking ambulance, so me and my mom stood there on standby while my dad rushed back to help.
Not long after, he called my mom. He told her to tell the hospital to bring a wheelchair over so they could send the patient over to the hospital. The nurses told us that there was no such service, which I thought was ignorant, because life was obviously more important than the services they provided. Why couldn't we just use the wheelchair to go save someone's life? Plus, if the wheelchair broke, I would be willing to pay for it.
I found a brochure of theirs, which had their motto. I forgot the exact words of the motto, but it basically meant "we try to give our customers the best service we can". But now, it basically meant "we don't care about our customers".
Because we didn't have a wheelchair, we had to help the injured person walk over to the hospital. They shoved the emergency door open. He was put on a hospital bed with his shoes taken off. Because there were too many people inside the emergency room, we had to go out.
We went back to the site and told the driver of the car that she had to be present of the hospital. We were scared that if she was not present, they would not help the injured man. After that, we left. Our mission was complete.

Slice Of Life #115 - The Novel Knockout Competition - Happened Today (15/5/2018) - Tuesday, 15/5/2018

23 students filed off the bus and walked to the entrance of the British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BISKL). Students were there to greet us, and a teacher showed us the way around. We went straight to the library to get ready for the upcoming Novel Knockout competition that was organized by the Kuala Lumpur Librarians Network (KLLN). I was one of the 8 people selected to represent my school in the competition, and the other 15 people were people that came to the meetings often.
"Zhi Hong, Alice, Cathy,  Pin. I want you to sit over there and get yourselves settled." Our librarian, Ms. Suji, said. We all walked as a team to a spot in the library.
"Ok," I said. "Get all the review sheets you currently have with you out now." We were not allowed to bring our competition books down because Ms. Suji didn't want us to be accused of cheating. There was a rustle as everyone got sheets of paper out from their backpacks. We had lots of work that we had yet to do.
For the competition, there were 8 books. The Whale, Beetle Boy, Laika, Real Friends, Sweet Pizza, Pax, The Diamond Mystery, and the Boy and a Jaguar.
I grabbed a book from the wall. "I'm going to write the answers for 'The Whale'." I said.
"I'll do 'Beetle Boy' and 'Real Friends'."
"I'll do 'Pax' and 'Diamond Mystery'."
We all talked about who was going to write the answers for specific books. That was when we realized that none of us were capable of being the expert for Boy and a Jaguar.
"Tobiah! We need you!" I called out. Tobiah was really good in Boy and a Jaguar, so then he had to tell us all the details from memory, as we were not allowed to have the book with us.
"Guys, would you all follow me to the auditorium for the competition?" A woman said to all of us.
We all stood up. "I guess it's time for the competition!" I said. "My heart is thumping so hard against my chest, it feels like it doesn't have enough room!"
The auditorium was freezing cold. After a few minutes, we were called down.
"ISKL!" Team A and Team B of ISKL rushed down the stage. A thrill ran through my bones as I took the steps 2 by 2 onto the stage.
First up was the Readers Award. This was a individual competition for everyone that got selected. We had to answer questions of random popular books and write what the name of books was when we saw only the cover, not the words.
That competition was hard. What is the horse's name in Winnie the Pooh? As soon as I read the question, I was dumbstruck. It's been years since I read Winnie the Pooh!!!! I just left the question blank.
"5!!! 4!!! 3!!! 2!!! 1!!!" Everyone was shouting, announcing the fact that we had 5 seconds left.
"Pencils down!" I turned my paper in.
It was another 2 mins before the actual competition begin. "Open your packets!" The commentator shouted. I ripped open the envelope and passed it to Cathy, who was writing Beetle Boy.
"Someone answer the Ipad questions!" We had 3 mins to answer the questions for each book, and we had until the 6th book to finish the Ipad questions.
    "What's the answer to this?"
    "Air-conditioning vault."
The questions for the competition were really detailed. The Ipad questions were detailed, but for me, they were plain easy. The questions on paper were the hard ones. Every time they had the paper questions, I would slam it in the box to answer the questions in time. I would also rip the envelope and take out the paper. I looked at the other schools, and to my surprise, they opened theirs nicely.
It was finally time for the answers to be announced. 2 girls from my school, ISKL, tied for the middle school readers award, so they had a heat round. Final score: 1-0. In middle school, my school secured 4th and 5th place.
"Now, I will announce the elementary school results from lowest to highest." The commentator said. "In 3rd place, we have ISKL2!"
I yelped with joy. That was the team that I was in!!! I ran down the stairs to grab my awards. I got a book and a certificate. At the same time, she announced even better news.
"In 2nd place, we have ISKL1!" Even though that was not my team, I was still happy. They got a certificate and a 50 ringgit voucher to spend on whatever book they wanted.
"I am so proud of all of you! This is the first time that ISKL ever got in top 3 for this competition! Next year, we should get 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and 4th place!" Ms. Suji said after the competition.
"No, next year, we should get 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd." I said with a smirk.

Slice Of Life #95 - Camping - Sunday, March 18th, 2018

"Finally! We're here!" I squealed as we got off the car. I was so excited to go to my Cub/Boy Scout campout. The only sad thing was the fact that there was a lot of traffic. Me and my mom set up our tents, then transported our things inside the tent.
After that, I went to the forest and jungle to find my den. We were filming a movie, which was a requirement in order for us to earn our Webelos badge. My classmate, ZL, who was a girl, came to the camp, but (she didn't really participate - she didn't help in doing anything except keep her annoying brothers away) she didn't get to do anything. HA-HA!
I was the producer, but my best friend, T, was director, and he was acting a shark scene, so I got to take over as director. I got to have the script the whole time, and whenever they messed up, the word "CUT!" would immediately come out of my mouth.
After filming, we just got to do some fun stuff. We got to do a scavenger hunt after our pack leader briefed us on what was allowed and not allowed.
Dinnertime was one of the most funnest times. I got to eat dinner with my friends, but sadly, I couldn't eat most of the food because of my allergies. We played around and talked about things that sadly, I will not tell you.
We got to make a real fire, and that was the funnest things. We had to find the wood to start the fire, and basically do everything. We made a fire that managed to burn for a really long time, which was alight when we performed our skits.
The Boy Scouts also thought us different skills such as first aid, pocketknife safety, fire starting, knot tying, and how to deal with flags.

I don't want to bore you to death, so I will end my post here. Those were the funnest parts of my Cub Scout camp. Have you ever went camping? Are you a Boy/Cub Scout? Have you ever made a real fire? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

Slice Of Life #89 - Filming a Movie - Happened on Wednesday, 7/3/2018 - Monday, 12/3/2018

After my SLC (student-led-conferences), my whole Cub Scout troop, including me, filmed a movie. This was part of our movie-making badge, which was a optional badge to earn. The important badges were about first aid, duty to God, fire safety, etc. Those where the required badges for your Webelos and Arrow of Light badge.

We had spent a few meetings drafting the movie, and I was the one that did most of the work because I was the producer. The producer had to draft the script, although we drafted the script together. For no apparent reason, 1/16 of everyone else's time was spent playing 4 square.

We managed to take lots of scenes, and I was allowed to transport all the equipment, which was actually quite fun. I also got to look at the camera whenever I wanted, because the producer was the most highest rank. I had to position all the people, and tell them what to do. Sometimes, I even had to act it out for the actors because they didn't really memorize the script yet, or they were doing it wrong. My 2nd best friend, TJ, was the prop director and the producer, while my best friend T was the director. I usually motioned to T to yell "CUT!" because the actors were messing up, but ended up yelling it myself.

The most funniest part was when we were shooting a "calling" scene where 2 people were calling each other, but N dropped his phone, and 5 secs later, the word "CUT!" was yelled by my friend. Usually, directors are supposed to wait a few seconds before they were allowed to yell cut, but I actually don't know why.

Don't want to brag, but our movie should be the best, because our den leader Agung, was a professional photographer, so he had really good HD cameras. I found out that the cameras were really expensive, because he told us that just the lens of the camera itself cost $7,000. That's 28,000 MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) , which is the currency that we are using here in Malaysia.

Now, we don't have a lot of scenes left to shoot, but there is still lots of things to do, because editing takes quite a while. Also, each scene takes us at least 5 mins to film, usually 10-20 mins. Are you a Cub/Boy Scout? Have you ever made a movie? Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

Slice Of Life #84 - SLC (Student-Led Conferences) - Wednesday, 7/3/2018

Today was the very day of SLC (Student-Led Conferences). I had a stomach ache that morning (that's probably going to be my 87th post), which was a really bad start to the day. I was walking to my class, prepared to tell my parents what I had been doing in class. I got a slip of paper from my teacher, which told me where to go first, and where to go after that.
My first station was the math station. I showed them my math notebooks and also our "unit books", which were books about each unit that we had (ex: measurement, multiplication and division, equivalent fractions, etc). I was proud of my post assessment, and also how I could convert and add very well. After that, I played a math game with my parents. I completely dominated them because they didn't play with skills (as I like to say), and also because their denominators were too big.
After the math station, we had the science/reading station. I showed my parents my science notebook, and also my research notebook. I also showed them me reading a book for research, which I pre-recorded. We also did a Quizlet (Quizlet is a app to help you learn), which my parents were really good at (only when we did learn) When we did the test, my parents were really bad because they didn't know how to spell the things. Another reason is because when we did learn, they just had to guess because the words were alike to the pictures and the definitions, and also because they were able to remember what they had already selected (Quizlet link here).
The station after that was my writing station. I showed my parents my writing notebook (I think that you should have guessed that without needing me to tell you). My writing goal was to keep on writing. Writing was my favorite subject in school, and I told my parents all about it.
Our last station was to meet my teacher (This paragraph is going to be shortened a lot because there are some things that I want to keep private here). My teacher told my parents my strengths and my weaknesses, and that was about it.

Slice Of Life #80 - Laser Tag - 3/3/2018 - Happened Today

Ok. I just came home from a birthday party.  I am so exhausted. We played laser tag. Ok, let's just get to the point.

"Me and my mom were walking on the 7th floor to go to my friend's birthday party. I found the laser tag area, and walked in. My friends were all already in there.
"Finally! You came!" My friend exclaimed.
I was really excited to get going. A person that worked at the laser tag area, who was going to be our guide for the day told us all the events and the activities that we could choose from, but only could do 2 activities. We had decided for the first round to be the solo round. The guide told us that we could get powerups from shooting the targets on the walls, and to earn points we would shoot other people (duh!). He also told us that there were 6 targets. 2 shoulder targets, 2 targets by your tummy, one target on your back, and also a target on your gun. To shoot with your gun, you needed both hands to be on your gun, because one hand was supposed to be on the trigger, and one was supposed to be on the sensor so you could shoot. If you got shot, you would not be able to shoot for 5 seconds. That was all. He told us that direct contact was not allowed, and we went into the arena.
I spread out from everyone, and the radio announced that the game was starting in 5 seconds. I held my gun tight and started to walk around the arena. I found my best friend T, but he didn't shoot me.  I managed to shoot him.
    "Whoa! Cheats!!!"
I just ignored his comment and ran away from him, knowing that he could get me after 5 seconds. Not long later, I was part of a 4 people shootout. We were all hiding behind walls and trying to hit each other. I hit a the birthday boy and his brother, and they both ran away. I think that the reason that I was able to land hits on them was because my shots were both timed and aimed, unlike most people would-just continuously pull the trigger again and again.
Lots of things happened after that, but eventually my friends told me to stop shooting. They had a serious tone in their voice, so I walked to their direction to see what was happening. The birthday's boy's (who I'm just going to call TJ) brother was injured and crying.
    "What's happening?" I asked them.
    "He's injured." They replied.
What are TJ, B, and T doing then? Their boy scouts just like me. The 1st thing to do in this situation is obviously to get help! I thought.
"Ok. I'll go get medical attention." I said, even though it was not exactly medical attention.
"I'll come with you." TJ added (my best friend T and a good friend B were taking care of him).
We found our way to the door where we came in, but it was not a door that you could pull.
    "Shoot." TJ said.
"I think I know what to do."
I pressed the button that said press, because of logic (yeah...).
The door did not open. TJ decided to try and pull the door open, and I tried to pull it open the other side. The door still did not budge. I decided to give the button one more try, so I smashed the button hard.
The door finally opened. We went into the place where we put on our suits, and found the door. We smashed the button again. That door opened. We ran and rushed to find TJ's parents.
    "My brother's injured." TJ said.
    "What?" TJ's mom asked.
    "Just follow us." We replied.
We quickly led TJ's mom to the place that TJ's brother was, and our guide and TJ's mom took care of him.

What would you do if you was in a situation like this? Have you ever helped someone that was injured? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Slice Of Life #71 - JUMP Camp - Happened from 10/12/2018 - Wednesday - 12/12/2018 - Thursday - Tuesday 16th, January 2018 - 16/1/2018 - Written On Monday, 15/1/2018

On January 10-11 2018, Wednesday and Thursday, we, grade 4 students had a really awesome JUMP camp. We learned many new things and improved our leadership, teamwork, communication and collaboration skills. We camped overnight in the school, but it was really hard for the boys to sleep because it was so hot in the studio. The boys slept in the studio and the girls slept in the library. Like I said up there, we learned many new things. We played many games. The games that I liked the most were:

  • Lava Pit
  • Key Punch
  • Blind Astronaut
  • Annie The Artist
  • Hoolium

Ratatouille was a movie
about a mouse that lived in Paris
In these games, someone had to take up the leadership part except for Key Punch and Blind Astronaut (Blind Astronaut - not really). I was the leader for most of the games, such as: Caterpillar Walk, Hoolium, Annie The Artist,  etc. I really liked the fact that I got to sleep with my friends. We had lots of time whenever we set up our sleeping bags, and I was the first to get everything organized. I got my sleeping bag, I got my pillow. I got a bunch of other things that I would need for the night/the next day. I applied my moisturizer that I needed for my allergy's and then started to play. I got out my Mensa Kids book that I was gonna figure out the tricks/not tricks out. We played American Football (no wrestling, only tagging) and also Monkey in the Middle with the Football that Mason brought (Is it called a football?). We got to watch a movie at night in our PJs (Pajamas). I ate some popcorn, which I comfirmed had no butter. I watched the movie Ratatouille. That movie was quite a old movie from 2007 and was about a mouse that lived in Paris. After the movie, I went to get my book, Auggie and Me, which I forgot to bring home the day before. Look below for a review for a review of Auggie and Me! On the first day, I didn't really get to eat much. I had to share half of my bun with my friend Nico, who had a rotten apple for... (who knows why). I got to eat all my lunch, and my best friend Toby forgot to bring food from home (he claimed that he didn't have food at home). At our small break for food, I couldn't eat anything but oranges and watermelon, but I only ate watermelon because I didn't like to eat oranges. Wake up call on the second day was at 7:00. Breakfast was at 7:00. I was the third person to wake up on the second day. I woke up about 15 minutes before it was wake up time (6:45). It was actually quite dark when I went to brush my teeth, and it looked like it was 6:00. On the second day, I liked it more because I got to take food from the teacher's area (which was way yummier and better) because I couldn't eat the breakfast they served. I also got to take the food from the canteen because I couldn't eat the lunch they served. Overall, I thought that JUMP camp was boss, the greatest, most "awesomest" camp that I have ever been in. It was a great blast.

Auggie and Me, a great book
Auggie and Me
Auggie and Me is about 3 more "Wonder" stories my R.J. Palacio. This does not continue the life of August Pullman, but it talks about others that know him or have a relationship with him. At first, this was published in 3 different books, but then the author decided to change it and make it into one whole book. I have not finished this book yet, but I can tell you that from what I am reading now, it is definitely a great blast! A must read, and it's very inspiring for me.

That's what happened in JUMP camp (for me, at least) Thanks for reading. Keep reading, keep writing, and have fun! What books are you reading? Did you ever go camping or stay at school for a night? Ever? Is it snowing where you are? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog!
