Slice Of Life #211 - MAP Test - Tuesday, April 30th, 2019

"Ugh." My friend groaned. "We have the MAP Test today."
The MAP Test was a test that we took every year. The word MAP stood for Measures of Academic Progress. Every year, we took the MAP Test so that our teachers would be able to see how much we improved. Today, we were going to be doing the Math MAP Test.
I quickly packed up my snack and walked into the classroom. I quickly grabbed my computer from the computer cart, opened it, and restarted it. Everyone was to shut down or restart and quit all applications so that you wouldn't get kicked out of the test.
It pretty much about 56,000 tries pressing the power button before my computer would finally turn on. Everyone always got annoyed with their computers because it always took ages to turn on.
But finally, my computer did turn on, and I turned on the NWEA Secure Testing Browser. This browser is incredibly secure; I had learned that over the years of MAP Testing.
After a while, my teacher let us all start the test. We all murmured: "Good luck," and started the first question. My first question was really easy. It took me about 10 seconds to work out the answer to the first question before I moved on to the second one.
Not after long, the questions started to get really hard. Some of the questions were algebra questions, and it took me about 2 minutes just to understand what the question was asking. It then took me another 3 minutes to actually solve the question.
Some of the questions I had never seen before, but I was able to work it out because I had done questions that were easier but were a base for working out the answers to the questions that I was now facing in the MAP Test.
After a really long time, I finally completed the test, and when I got my answers, I was stunned. My results were higher than I expected. Happy with my results, I raised my hand and gave them to my teacher. And then, I shut the lid and took a moment to appreciate, the cold, fresh air. The test was over.

Slice Of Life #135 - ISA Testing - Tuesday, 2/10/2018

Boy, am I relieved know that ISA testing is over. Over the past 2 days, we had the International Schools Assessment (ISA). Over the past couple of weeks, kids just like me in international schools were going to be doing a test just like this, according to their grade. In our school, grades 3-10 would do the ISA test, while grades 11 and 12 would be studying for their IB exams, which was way more important than the ISA test. Yesterday, we had 2 math tests and 1 narrative writing test.
In my opinion, the math tests weren't too hard, but the narrative writing test took a lot of creativity. They gave us a topic, which was A COMPUTER IN A RUBBISH BIN, WHICH I THINK IS A PRETTY BAD TOPIC. Ok, it was a good topic, but it would be considered 'a weird topic'. In the end, I decided to write about how the computer belonged to a undercover CIA agent, and the CIA agent had to go and get his computer back. Another thing I was concerned about was the time limit. We were given 30 minutes, and with a topic like this, I think we really should have longer time to write the story.
Today, we had a reading test and a opinion writing test. I found a few of the questions in the reading test challenging, but in the end I think I managed to find the correct answer. Well, I'm pretty confident with my answer.
After lunch, we had the writing test. Now came another topic. Music is not just fun, but is also good for you. I knew that music was good for you, but I was only able to come up with 2 reasons. Music can brighten someone's day and reduce stress and help with depression. Playing a musical instrument may help you to make new friends, and may also improve their motor and cognitive skills and build new connections between your neurons. I would usually write 5 paragraphs, but because I didn't have enough reasons, I had to stick with 4. I think I did pretty well in this test, and I hope to see some good results (well, everyone does).

Slice Of Life #112 - Map Testing + Map Testing AGAIN Tomorrow!!!!

Okay, so that map test was hard. I need to sleep early today. AGAIN!!! WHY? BECAUSE I AM TAKING THE MAP TEST AGAIN TOMORROW!!!
Basically, the MAP Test is not a timed test, which is one reason why I'm happy. I get to retake my reading and math test again. Why? Well, I didn't finish it in 1 hour.
I was on my 27th question when my teacher stopped me on my math test. This was probably because I spent every inch of my time thinking about how to work out really, really hard questions. I eventually found the answers for some of them, and my dad told me that I was probably correct because he said that I solved it correctly! I'm so happy!!!!
Oh, and this was the question for the question that I solved correctly. I remember the question clearly in the mind. Anyways, this was the question:
You have a box with a volume of 1500m. The width of the box is 15m, while the length of the box is 5m. What is the height of this box?
When I first got that question, I was like: Wha? (I know, I spelled 'what' wrongly, but on purpose.) After 3 mins of hard thinking, I decided to just do 15x5xX. When I reached answer B (which was 20m), I got 1500m. I then selected B because it was probably the correct answer.
On the other hand, for my reading test, my teacher stopped me on my 48th question! Why?! At the worst time!!! I was almost done with the test, because people usually answer about 50 questions before their test is over.
About the reading test, it was also. I expected the reading test to be harder than the math test, but the math test was WAY, WAY HARDER. I got really long passages in the test, which took like, 2 mins to read. Other than that, they started asking me about Latin roots, which I had learned when I was young, so I remembered a little. They also asked me for a synonym for this word that I didn't even know existed.
Basically, my replacement session is tomorrow, which means that I am going to continue my test tomorrow. Now, I have to go because I have to sleep early today.

Slice Of Life #84 - SLC (Student-Led Conferences) - Wednesday, 7/3/2018

Today was the very day of SLC (Student-Led Conferences). I had a stomach ache that morning (that's probably going to be my 87th post), which was a really bad start to the day. I was walking to my class, prepared to tell my parents what I had been doing in class. I got a slip of paper from my teacher, which told me where to go first, and where to go after that.
My first station was the math station. I showed them my math notebooks and also our "unit books", which were books about each unit that we had (ex: measurement, multiplication and division, equivalent fractions, etc). I was proud of my post assessment, and also how I could convert and add very well. After that, I played a math game with my parents. I completely dominated them because they didn't play with skills (as I like to say), and also because their denominators were too big.
After the math station, we had the science/reading station. I showed my parents my science notebook, and also my research notebook. I also showed them me reading a book for research, which I pre-recorded. We also did a Quizlet (Quizlet is a app to help you learn), which my parents were really good at (only when we did learn) When we did the test, my parents were really bad because they didn't know how to spell the things. Another reason is because when we did learn, they just had to guess because the words were alike to the pictures and the definitions, and also because they were able to remember what they had already selected (Quizlet link here).
The station after that was my writing station. I showed my parents my writing notebook (I think that you should have guessed that without needing me to tell you). My writing goal was to keep on writing. Writing was my favorite subject in school, and I told my parents all about it.
Our last station was to meet my teacher (This paragraph is going to be shortened a lot because there are some things that I want to keep private here). My teacher told my parents my strengths and my weaknesses, and that was about it.

Do you have SLC in your schools? What did you do today? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

Slice Of Life #81 - Bored - Sunday, 4/3/2018

I am currently very bored. I just watched videos on YouTube. I just ate breakfast. Now, I am writing this post. I am out of ideas. My dad is not here. He is attending a seminar. So, I am very bored. Wait. I just realized. My dad's birthday is coming up soon. Maybe I should write a card for him (I'm actually planning to write an email instead. Saves paper). I take that back.
I am going to do homework. Just kidding. I am currently very bored, but I think that I should talk about a game that I am playing. I am currently playing a very fun hotel game. You have to build and run a hotel, but you have to be smart. You want to be making profit, and not want to be losing money. That is the catch. You can't be too selfish and make a really massive hotel, because then you will have to bare the expenses of losing money. Anyways, let's just get to the story.
Business is booming, and I am very happy. I have just made $561. I just checked how much money a guest has spent, and it seems like he has spent $830. That man must be rich! Oh shoot! I just checked my statistics and I am losing money! My business is not going well! I am earning more money, but I going to take a big risk. Buying 4 more rooms!
I don't understand this game. I really don't! A customer spent $1050 on my hotel! What is life? It's my birthday in the game (with the fact that I wasn't even born yet)! I just fired a engineer for fun. *Not exactly* I fired the engineer because I found out that I hired 2 engineers. I just want to say "Sorry" to the engineer that I fired. I had to. It was for my business.
WHAT IS LIFE? I'm currently just sitting here and someone just spent $1126, which is enough to pay for my total rooms keeping! I'm not having any negatives this month!
Just checked. I have only $52 profit. Shoot!
I'm just going to end my post here.

You should play this game! It's really fun! If you ever play this game, tell me your progress down below in the comment section below! I would love to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

P.S Link to the game here!

Slice Of Life #72 - Sick At Home - Happened On Wednesday, 17/1/2018 - Tuesday 23rd, January 2018 - 23/1/2018 - Written On Monday, 22/1/2018

I had to do some math homework.
On Wednesday, 17/1/2018, I was sick at home. I couldn't go to school because I had a fever that was 37 - 38.5°. I was really sad because my goal for this year was to not miss any school days, like I didn't last year.
Even though I was sick, that didn't stop me from doing homework. I did 2 of my homework activities because I didn't do one the day before and I had to do it on the same day. That week, all my things that I did for homework was all writing, because it was my favorite subject. For homework, I did some activities on code.org, and some free choice writing on the story that me and my friends were working on.
I also had some math homework that I had to do. The questions that I liked the most were the word problems because I am really good at solving math equations when it comes to word problems. My math homework that I had was not very hard, except for some questions that I was clueless on how to solve. I knew what to do, but I didn't know how. Sounds confusing, huh?
I also watched some YouTube. I started watching some old videos because I wasn't in the mood of watching new videos. I also had piano lessons even though I was sick. I was quite happy because I got a distinction in my theory.

Book Review/Summary Of The Week

From now on, I will have a book review of the week (until March, at least). I am doing this because I want this to be part of my home learning (homework). I might keep this as part of my posts, but I also might stop. If you like this book review of the week, be sure to tell me in the comments section below so I keep writing this!
Author: Nick Arnold, Phil Gates
Illustrator: Tony De Saulles
Rating: 4.1 stars - 291 votes (credit to goodreads.com)
Summary: Horrible Science - Space, Stars, and Slimy Aliens are a great book if you want to learn about space. They let you know the nasty bits of space and things that your teacher's might know, but they never tell you. This is a type of hybrid nonfiction, as you learn while in a spaceship. In the book, at least...

Slice Of Life #70 - My Week - Happened from 3/1/2018 - 7/1/2018 - Tuesday 9th, January 2018 - 9/1/2018 - Written On 8/1/2018

Nothing really interesting happened this/last week. Not really. There was some things I did that was not very fun, but we didn't do it often.
That week was the last week of my holidays. Holidays in terms of winter break. It was also the last winter break that I would have (probably). For some reason, my school was cancelling the winter break and I didn't know why.
On holidays, I usually wake up really late because that time is for us to rest. I only wake up early if I have classes at 9:00 in the morning. I usually oversleep, which I don't like, because I hate to wake up late.

Wednesday -

Wednesday was a pretty normal day. I didn't have piano lessons that week (I don't know why). My dad went to work, we ate breakfast. I forgot, but I think that I woke up late that day. I practiced my piano for about 15 mins because I didn't really practice my piano that much that week. I need to revise on the songs that I would play on my grade 1 (I know, I'm not very high level yet) exam. I also needed to memorize my scales for D and E minor. On that day, I also watched my favorite YouTubers on YouTube, Unspeakable (Nathan) and Preston (that's his real name).

Thursday -

They serve great food!
On Thursday, I woke up early because I wanted to go to a Indian shop called Rattha Curry House to eat. If you read some of my other posts, this might sound familiar. I like to go to that Indian shop to eat. I woke up early specially on this day because I wanted to eat some noodles that the now only serve on Thursday and - I think - Tuesday. I watched some YouTube and also caught up on my story that I want to work forward and publish with my friends (and without my friends).

Friday -

On Friday, my and my mom went to settle some really important things (which I can't talk about here). When we got home, I went to help my parents buy food, which I really liked because I got to calculate the balance/change. After buying food, - of course - we ate it.
After that, I had to rush to my Chinese class, and that was about all the things that you readers should think interesting. I am just going to summarize in this post, even though sometimes I retell.

Saturday -

My DSA swimming
On Saturday, I woke up at about 8:00am because I had a maths class at 9:00 am. I liked the name of my maths class, which in short form was SAM and that stood for Seriously Addictive Maths. After my maths class, I went straight to my DSA class in the place where they had the Sea Games (Bukit Jalil). I had my swimming classes there, which was my first swimming lesson. There was a major even happening there. When I reached there, I saw lots of people from the army and even more police officers. They came with big trucks and buses. After my swimming lesson, I went for my robotics class and there I made a cow, but I messed up and now I can't walk well because I tried to make the head move (that was what my teacher made me do).

Sunday -

Nasi Lemak (Awesome!)
On Sunday, I didn't have any classes. I woke up late and my breakfast was Nasi Lemak. After that, we got started on my Pinewood Derby car for my cub scouting Pinewood Derby car racing. We went to eat lunch with my parents friends, and I watched a lot of YouTube there. When we got home, we finished our pinewood derby car, and we did a little bit of sandpapering. Sunday was a great day.

That's what happened in this week for me. Thanks for reading. Keep reading, keep writing, and have fun! What books are you reading? What was your week like? Is it snowing where you are? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

What's Happening In School So Far

My Classmates:

What Happened Today:

Today and yesterday, we had the ISA. ISA stands for International Schools Assessment. In my opinion, the ISA was not very hard.

Reading

Image result for Ms. Kerr is Phony bookCurrently, in reading, we are starting nonfiction. Recently we just finished reading a book called Ms. Joni is a Phony from My Weirdest School.

Writing

In these two days, there wasn't much writing going on, but I already finished typing my opinion piece onto the computer.

Math

In math, we are starting unit two.  Because of the ISA, we didn't do much math.

Social Studies

Identity Poster

Currently, we are doing an identity poster. My after picture looked nothing like me. I just finished drawing and making lines of my flag - the Malaysian flag.
