Book Review/Summary Of The Week

Author: Janet Tashijian
Illustrator: Jake Tashijian
Review/Summary: When Derek becomes a stuntboy for a really popular actress, he gets to miss school. I like the part when he does the stunts because it is filled with packed action. I didn't really like it when he broke up with his friends, but I found it surprising that he was selected to become a stuntboy.

Slice Of Life #72 - Sick At Home - Happened On Wednesday, 17/1/2018 - Tuesday 23rd, January 2018 - 23/1/2018 - Written On Monday, 22/1/2018

I had to do some math homework.
On Wednesday, 17/1/2018, I was sick at home. I couldn't go to school because I had a fever that was 37 - 38.5°. I was really sad because my goal for this year was to not miss any school days, like I didn't last year.
Even though I was sick, that didn't stop me from doing homework. I did 2 of my homework activities because I didn't do one the day before and I had to do it on the same day. That week, all my things that I did for homework was all writing, because it was my favorite subject. For homework, I did some activities on code.org, and some free choice writing on the story that me and my friends were working on.
I also had some math homework that I had to do. The questions that I liked the most were the word problems because I am really good at solving math equations when it comes to word problems. My math homework that I had was not very hard, except for some questions that I was clueless on how to solve. I knew what to do, but I didn't know how. Sounds confusing, huh?
I also watched some YouTube. I started watching some old videos because I wasn't in the mood of watching new videos. I also had piano lessons even though I was sick. I was quite happy because I got a distinction in my theory.

Book Review/Summary Of The Week

From now on, I will have a book review of the week (until March, at least). I am doing this because I want this to be part of my home learning (homework). I might keep this as part of my posts, but I also might stop. If you like this book review of the week, be sure to tell me in the comments section below so I keep writing this!
Author: Nick Arnold, Phil Gates
Illustrator: Tony De Saulles
Rating: 4.1 stars - 291 votes (credit to goodreads.com)
Summary: Horrible Science - Space, Stars, and Slimy Aliens are a great book if you want to learn about space. They let you know the nasty bits of space and things that your teacher's might know, but they never tell you. This is a type of hybrid nonfiction, as you learn while in a spaceship. In the book, at least...

Slice Of Life #71 - JUMP Camp - Happened from 10/12/2018 - Wednesday - 12/12/2018 - Thursday - Tuesday 16th, January 2018 - 16/1/2018 - Written On Monday, 15/1/2018

On January 10-11 2018, Wednesday and Thursday, we, grade 4 students had a really awesome JUMP camp. We learned many new things and improved our leadership, teamwork, communication and collaboration skills. We camped overnight in the school, but it was really hard for the boys to sleep because it was so hot in the studio. The boys slept in the studio and the girls slept in the library. Like I said up there, we learned many new things. We played many games. The games that I liked the most were:

  • Lava Pit
  • Key Punch
  • Blind Astronaut
  • Annie The Artist
  • Hoolium

Ratatouille was a movie
about a mouse that lived in Paris
In these games, someone had to take up the leadership part except for Key Punch and Blind Astronaut (Blind Astronaut - not really). I was the leader for most of the games, such as: Caterpillar Walk, Hoolium, Annie The Artist,  etc. I really liked the fact that I got to sleep with my friends. We had lots of time whenever we set up our sleeping bags, and I was the first to get everything organized. I got my sleeping bag, I got my pillow. I got a bunch of other things that I would need for the night/the next day. I applied my moisturizer that I needed for my allergy's and then started to play. I got out my Mensa Kids book that I was gonna figure out the tricks/not tricks out. We played American Football (no wrestling, only tagging) and also Monkey in the Middle with the Football that Mason brought (Is it called a football?). We got to watch a movie at night in our PJs (Pajamas). I ate some popcorn, which I comfirmed had no butter. I watched the movie Ratatouille. That movie was quite a old movie from 2007 and was about a mouse that lived in Paris. After the movie, I went to get my book, Auggie and Me, which I forgot to bring home the day before. Look below for a review for a review of Auggie and Me! On the first day, I didn't really get to eat much. I had to share half of my bun with my friend Nico, who had a rotten apple for... (who knows why). I got to eat all my lunch, and my best friend Toby forgot to bring food from home (he claimed that he didn't have food at home). At our small break for food, I couldn't eat anything but oranges and watermelon, but I only ate watermelon because I didn't like to eat oranges. Wake up call on the second day was at 7:00. Breakfast was at 7:00. I was the third person to wake up on the second day. I woke up about 15 minutes before it was wake up time (6:45). It was actually quite dark when I went to brush my teeth, and it looked like it was 6:00. On the second day, I liked it more because I got to take food from the teacher's area (which was way yummier and better) because I couldn't eat the breakfast they served. I also got to take the food from the canteen because I couldn't eat the lunch they served. Overall, I thought that JUMP camp was boss, the greatest, most "awesomest" camp that I have ever been in. It was a great blast.

Auggie and Me, a great book
Auggie and Me
Auggie and Me is about 3 more "Wonder" stories my R.J. Palacio. This does not continue the life of August Pullman, but it talks about others that know him or have a relationship with him. At first, this was published in 3 different books, but then the author decided to change it and make it into one whole book. I have not finished this book yet, but I can tell you that from what I am reading now, it is definitely a great blast! A must read, and it's very inspiring for me.

That's what happened in JUMP camp (for me, at least) Thanks for reading. Keep reading, keep writing, and have fun! What books are you reading? Did you ever go camping or stay at school for a night? Ever? Is it snowing where you are? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Slice Of Life #70 - My Week - Happened from 3/1/2018 - 7/1/2018 - Tuesday 9th, January 2018 - 9/1/2018 - Written On 8/1/2018

Nothing really interesting happened this/last week. Not really. There was some things I did that was not very fun, but we didn't do it often.
That week was the last week of my holidays. Holidays in terms of winter break. It was also the last winter break that I would have (probably). For some reason, my school was cancelling the winter break and I didn't know why.
On holidays, I usually wake up really late because that time is for us to rest. I only wake up early if I have classes at 9:00 in the morning. I usually oversleep, which I don't like, because I hate to wake up late.

Wednesday -

Wednesday was a pretty normal day. I didn't have piano lessons that week (I don't know why). My dad went to work, we ate breakfast. I forgot, but I think that I woke up late that day. I practiced my piano for about 15 mins because I didn't really practice my piano that much that week. I need to revise on the songs that I would play on my grade 1 (I know, I'm not very high level yet) exam. I also needed to memorize my scales for D and E minor. On that day, I also watched my favorite YouTubers on YouTube, Unspeakable (Nathan) and Preston (that's his real name).

Thursday -

They serve great food!
On Thursday, I woke up early because I wanted to go to a Indian shop called Rattha Curry House to eat. If you read some of my other posts, this might sound familiar. I like to go to that Indian shop to eat. I woke up early specially on this day because I wanted to eat some noodles that the now only serve on Thursday and - I think - Tuesday. I watched some YouTube and also caught up on my story that I want to work forward and publish with my friends (and without my friends).

Friday -

On Friday, my and my mom went to settle some really important things (which I can't talk about here). When we got home, I went to help my parents buy food, which I really liked because I got to calculate the balance/change. After buying food, - of course - we ate it.
After that, I had to rush to my Chinese class, and that was about all the things that you readers should think interesting. I am just going to summarize in this post, even though sometimes I retell.

Saturday -

My DSA swimming
On Saturday, I woke up at about 8:00am because I had a maths class at 9:00 am. I liked the name of my maths class, which in short form was SAM and that stood for Seriously Addictive Maths. After my maths class, I went straight to my DSA class in the place where they had the Sea Games (Bukit Jalil). I had my swimming classes there, which was my first swimming lesson. There was a major even happening there. When I reached there, I saw lots of people from the army and even more police officers. They came with big trucks and buses. After my swimming lesson, I went for my robotics class and there I made a cow, but I messed up and now I can't walk well because I tried to make the head move (that was what my teacher made me do).

Sunday -

Nasi Lemak (Awesome!)
On Sunday, I didn't have any classes. I woke up late and my breakfast was Nasi Lemak. After that, we got started on my Pinewood Derby car for my cub scouting Pinewood Derby car racing. We went to eat lunch with my parents friends, and I watched a lot of YouTube there. When we got home, we finished our pinewood derby car, and we did a little bit of sandpapering. Sunday was a great day.

That's what happened in this week for me. Thanks for reading. Keep reading, keep writing, and have fun! What books are you reading? What was your week like? Is it snowing where you are? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Slice Of Life #69 - Happy New Year!!! - Going To Krabi - Tuesday 2nd, January 2018 - 2/1/2018 - Happened from 29/12/2017-1/1/2018

Before this post starts, I want to say a happy new year to everyone! I recently have went and came back from Krabi to tell you that that place is a really exciting place to go. This time, I'm going to be making everything shorter because last time it took me ages to finish a holiday story. Let's get on with the post!

My last day in Siem Reap:

Click here, here, here, and here to see the previous episodes of my Siem Reap holidays.
I met my classmate, Zhee Loc in the airport (in a bookstore)
We were on the same flight back to Malaysia, and she was sitting 2 rows behind me.
A very fun day.

My Krabi Trip:

Day 1  -

Our hotel, Glow Ao Nang Krabi
  • We checked in to our hotel - Glow Ao Nang
  • We went ziplining - company name: Thai'D Up Adventures (Click on the link for the trip advisor recommendations or click here for the official website)
  • Ziplining was fun, and because I was short, I had to constantly lift myself up so the guides could clip on my safety belt.
  • My furthest distance that I ziplined myself was 250 meters.
  • We went abseiling, which looked scary, but it wasn't scary even though you had to go down about 100 meters.

Day 2 -

The Emerald Pool
  • We went on a jungle tour
  • We went to the Emerald Pool first, which was called the Emerald Pool because it was all green. I think that the reason it's green is because around it, there was a lot of moss, which made it really slippery and very weird feeling.
  • After going to the Emerald Pool, we had lunch. We ate a lot, constantly having to refill our vegetables.
  • Image result for hot spring krabi ao nang
The hot spring (it's not as dangerous
as it looks - quite safe).
  • Then, we went to a hot spring. At first, the hot spring was really hot, but after a while, it got warmer and warmer. The sad thing was the fact that we only could stay in there for 15-20 mins because the temperature surrounding you would become hotter than your body temperature (I think that's the science behind it).
  • After that, we went kayaking. We had problems controlling our boat, but we managed to get through the hard path, were the current was really strong. One of the boats overturned, and we had to pour out the many liters of water that was in it. There, we got to get out of the boat and I found out that if I didn't apply power, I would/or could fall down.
Day 3 - Happy New Year!!! -
  • On that day, we didn't have any tours booked so we just relaxed at our hotel.
  • We went on a long walk (about 5 kilometers or more) and it was mostly shops everywhere with people desperately trying to do business (I show respect to those people because they are actually trying to make a living unlike just sitting there waiting for people to come).
  • We found this shop that didn't use chemicals, and I found money sitting on some products, which I returned.
  • I really wanted this shirt where there was a big fish trying to eat a medium sized fish who was trying to eat a small fish. At the end, I brought another T-shirt because there was no "big fish eating small fish" T-shirt for kids, only for grown-ups.
  • I played Nintendo at the hotel, which was my first time playing it. There was a Nintendo at the kids area at the hotel. I was able to build a house but I kept running out of wood. I also got some decent things so I could survive, and I kept having problems because I ran out of food. (I don't waste money on games)
  • Image result for celebrating 2018 fireworks krabi
    Happy new year!!!
  • I learned from my dad some tips of how to play pool/snooker. By the end of the time I was able to shoot a ball into a hole from the far side of the table.
  • We went for dinner, and went home because my parents said that going for a countdown was a dangerous decision.
  • We were awake when the fireworks were happening, so we managed to capture it on tape.
  • My dad finished our Krabi Trip video, which was a video of what we did at Krabi. It was about 3-4 mins.
  • A very great day.
  • Day 4 -
  • I played snooker/pool, and I got pretty good at it, able to hit hard shots.
  • A girl came, so I played snooker/pool with her. She got all the lucky shots, and every single shot that I had was a hard one. Even if I made it in, it was usually a hard one unless she had a foul and I got to put the white ball wherever I wanted.
  • We checked out, went to eat lunch, and also booked a taxi.
  • We went to the airport, and reached Malaysia at night.
