Slice Of Life #77 - A Piano Trial Exam - Happened On 25/2/2018 (Sunday) - Written On 26/2/2018 - 27/2/2018

Book Review/Summary Of The Week - (This is not part of my slice)

Book: The Secret Coders
Author: Gene Luen Yang
Secret Coders (Secret Coders, #1)

Review/Summary: When 3 kids find out that their school, Stately Academy, they find out that their school has lots of secrets. They also find out that their janitor used to teach below what is Stately Academy, and the janitor used to teach code. As they get to know the janitor more in secret, they work together with their janitor to stop whatever challenges face them!

It was 2:40 in the afternoon, and I was getting onto the car to go to my music center for my trial exam. I decided to do some last minute revising so that I wouldn't have anything that I don't know how to do.

When we reached the music center, there were lots of people sitting everywhere with their piano books and doing some last minute practice. I saw my mom walk over to pay for my exam. After that, a teacher came and told us to bring our stationeries (I know stationeries is not a word) and either give the bags that we currently had to our parents of leave them outside of the room.

I walked into the room and saw that there were lots of tables with worksheets on them. I found one that was for 1st grade and sat there (yes, my level/grade is very low).

I looked at the first questions. These are not too hard, I thought. I finished the first ones flawlessly, because I had just done some revision on those questions on the car. I finished the page and looked at what I had left to do. Boy, there are sure lots of questions here.

I was on the last 3 pages when a teacher came in. "Just saying, those of you from grade 1 - grade 3, you only have 30 more minutes." The teacher said.

I knew that I was really slow when doing beaming, so I decided to do the ones in front first, which were really easy. The questions there were about the dynamics and about how long the notes were.

After I finished those questions, my piano teacher came in. "Those of you from grade 1-3, you can work on your exam papers until 5 o' clock, but in the real exam, you only have 1 and a half hours."

I wanted to finish before 4:30, but as long as I was done before 5:00, I was happy. I finally finished my test, and I checked my work. I only got about 3 questions wrong, which I changed, and passed my exam papers to a teacher. I then went out of the class and got my bag, then went to find my mom.

When I asked her what time it was, she said that it was 4:40. I was quite happy because that meant that I could finish on time.

Have you ever had a exam (outside of school)? Do you get really stressed? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for reading my blog! Feel free to leave any comments that you have in the comments section below.  Stay updated for some other good posts and please return to my blog!

Book Review/Summary Of The Week

Book: The Elementia Chronicles - Book One: Quest For Justice
Author: Sean Fay Wolf
Review/Summary: When Kat, Charles, and Stan join the Elementia server, they find out that they are in trouble. Recently, the king just passed a law banning people from the server if they die. When Stan tries to kill a king using a bow, his plan backfired and the king's forces are finding them and trying to assassinate them. Read on to find out what happens when they go on their quest for justice!

On Saturday, we had a pinewood derby competition. I ate breakfast in the car and arrived early because my dad was one of the people who would help others put on the wheels and do anything that the cubscouts and girl scouts still needed to do. When we first arrived, there were barely any people there.

I had to put on a lot of weight on my car because it was really light, and whenever racing with a pinewood derby car, you want as much weight as possible on the back. I did the same thing with my lego car, but I only had to put a little bit of weight. After putting all the weight on my two cars and overloading my two cars with graphite, I weighed my car. My wood car was almost overweight because it was 142g, the maximum weight you can have if you want to enter your car for the competition. My lego car was also almost overweight, weighing 141g.

When the race started, I had to wait quite a long time for my car to race. My lego car went first, and surprisingly, I got 1st place. I was surprised, but kind of not so surprised at the same time. I built the car myself, so that was the reason I was surprised. I wasn't very surprised because my car was really aerodynamic.

When my wood car was racing against Leo's wood car, I thought that I would lose for sure. My friend Leo's car was really good and usually won 1st place. When the cars sped down the track, when my car reached the bottom of the track, it started to get a 5cm lead against all the cars. As Leo's car sped down the track, it started to gain more momentum and slowly caught up to me. The race was a really close finish for me and Leo. I was just a few milimeters or centimeters ahead of Leo.

At some point in the race, they had technical issues so the race could not continue. We went out to the playground to play some games. Because of the technical issues, they had to use brainpower to see who won the medals, which is quite unfair because computers are usually more accurate than humans, and in this case, it turned out to be true. They did not actually count the results well.

When it was time to get our awards, I was quite surprised that I didn't get one. James, someone in my den got the award for the fastest car in our den - Webelos 4. This was the only year that I didn't get a award yet.

To end this, I have to say that I really wished that something didn't go wrong with the system, because I probably would have won a medal if the system didn't "break".

Journey To The Centre Of The Planet Summary

BBC: Richard Hammonds - Journey To The Centre Of The Earth
My class, 4JK, got the opportunity to watch a really interesting documentary. My whole class liked the documentary and there were also lots of things that we learned, for example, the fact that turtles navigate using the magnetic field, etc.

If I needed to rate the documentary, I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. My favorite part of the documentary was when a scientist went down to collect lava samples, and at that very moment, the volcano was erupting. He went all the way down to the edge, and at the last minute, he left. An experienced scientist also yelled for him to get out, but he didn't follow the instructions. Jumped down about 1 or 2 meters, and behind him, the lava was quickly spewing out of the volcano. This documentary is a great video to watch and I also plan to watch other videos by Richard Hammonds at home.

Book Review/Summary Of The Week

Author: Janet Tashijian
Illustrator: Jake Tashijian
Review/Summary: When Derek becomes a stuntboy for a really popular actress, he gets to miss school. I like the part when he does the stunts because it is filled with packed action. I didn't really like it when he broke up with his friends, but I found it surprising that he was selected to become a stuntboy.

Slice Of Life #72 - Sick At Home - Happened On Wednesday, 17/1/2018 - Tuesday 23rd, January 2018 - 23/1/2018 - Written On Monday, 22/1/2018

Image result for math homework
I had to do some math homework.
On Wednesday, 17/1/2018, I was sick at home. I couldn't go to school because I had a fever that was 37 - 38.5°. I was really sad because my goal for this year was to not miss any school days, like I didn't last year.
Even though I was sick, that didn't stop me from doing homework. I did 2 of my homework activities because I didn't do one the day before and I had to do it on the same day. That week, all my things that I did for homework was all writing, because it was my favorite subject. For homework, I did some activities on code.org, and some free choice writing on the story that me and my friends were working on.
I also had some math homework that I had to do. The questions that I liked the most were the word problems because I am really good at solving math equations when it comes to word problems. My math homework that I had was not very hard, except for some questions that I was clueless on how to solve. I knew what to do, but I didn't know how. Sounds confusing, huh?
I also watched some YouTube. I started watching some old videos because I wasn't in the mood of watching new videos. I also had piano lessons even though I was sick. I was quite happy because I got a distinction in my theory.

Book Review/Summary Of The Week

From now on, I will have a book review of the week (until March, at least). I am doing this because I want this to be part of my home learning (homework). I might keep this as part of my posts, but I also might stop. If you like this book review of the week, be sure to tell me in the comments section below so I keep writing this!

Illustrator: Tony De Saulles
Rating: 4.1 stars - 291 votes (credit to goodreads.com)
Summary: Horrible Science - Space, Stars, and Slimy Aliens are a great book if you want to learn about space. They let you know the nasty bits of space and things that your teacher's might know, but they never tell you. This is a type of hybrid nonfiction, as you learn while in a spaceship. In the book, at least...
