Slice Of Life #123 - On Holiday - Tuesday, 10/7/2018

Okay... Currently I am in Vienna, Austria, and my dad is reading a map. I am taking this precious time to write my Slice Of Life. Because of that, sorry if this slice is kind of weird.  Anyways, back to the point. I am on holiday right now in Vienna. We just came back from Budapest, Hungary. Budapest was a great place to visit. There, we took a hop on and off bus tour. The bus tour included earphones (yay!), which we used to listen to pre-recorded guides. Ok. Now I am sitting in front of a Mozart monument. The place is so green. It is so windy right now. In Budapest, we passed by lots of places with a medevil history. Unfortunately, the places did not have a good history. Some of the places were places where innocent people were threatened, tortured, and even murdered by the Nazi Cross Party (in other words, Hitler's party) in that domain. Great. It's raining heavily now. I managed to take some beautiful pictures on the cruise, which was included in our hop on hop off bus (big bus) ticket. We also bought tickets to a castle bus ticket. We managed to cover 4km around the castle, but we eventually were forced to stop because we were taking a 6:30 bus to Vienna. Now, here I am, sitting down, waiting for the rain to stop, awaiting whatever adventure awaits me.

Slice Of Life #122 - Kuantan Outreach - Tuesday, 3/7/2018

Ok. We're back! The day before yesterday (Sunday), was a tiring day. I woke up at 3:30 am and slept at about 11:00 pm. Why was this so? Because I went to an outreach in Kuantan (which is a state in Malaysia). My dad is a doctor, and he was supposed to go to this outreach to help refugees, so me and my mom decided to go with him.
Anyways, I woke up to a daze. Well, somewhat of a daze. My alarm clock was screaming disgraceful noises into my ear. I smashed the top of the alarm clock, snoozing the alarm clock (for now). I rubbed my eyes. I turned off the alarm clock, and it went back to becoming a normal clock.
I looked at the time. 3:30, it read. I threw the covers on the bed. I scrambled out of bed and opened the door to my room to be met with blinding white light. A friend of my parents came to our house. We were "carpooling" to the area where the bus would pick up all of the people going to the outreach. It took 1 hour to reach "the place", and after a wait of about 15 mins, the bus stopped in front of the building with a screech.
We hopped on. I was happy to finally be able to get a chance to be able to sleep. On the other hand, the bus seats were not leather, which I hated because I hate to ride on those soft, "cushiony" seats. We passed by Batu Caves, and the view there was just amazing. The giant god was lit up with light, while everything remained dark.
Among reaching the place where the outreach would take place, I woke up. We got off the bus, and we went into the building (unless the person had a job outside the building). I had nothing to do, and I really wanted one badly, but there was nothing to do. Then, a person came to me with something to do. I could help out in the ushering group.
My job was to hand out numbers to each patient, and the numbers would help us keep track of how many patients we would be able to see in 6 hours. Our target was 400. Refugees without UN cards are not welcome in Malaysia, but some people had negotiated the case with the police, so the police would not catch any illegal refugees today so they would be allowed to seek treatment (oh, treatment is free. I forgot to say.)
After the outreach, I felt pretty good because I was able to help a lot of people on that day. We had managed to get 318 patients, which I thought was a pretty good amount although we didn't reach the target.

Slice Of Life #121 - Currently... - Tuesday, 26/6/2018

Currently...

  • I have nothing to write about.
  • I am trying to find out why my teacher, Ms. Victor is not "promoting" my slices anymore. She said that I could send the link of my slices to her private email this summer (because she has left our school (boo!!!)). Wait. I meant forever.
  • Apparently she is still slicing. (I checked her blog).
  • In this case, it means that she is not checking her private email. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???????????????????????????????????????????????????
  • I'm watching a really funny spelling bee on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Like, it's really funny. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX1RBvIGsj8
  • Juillermo, the expert word pronouncer (I did not spell his name wrong (I might have, but his name is weird)) is really bad at pronouncing.
  •  Word: Hierarchy. Pronunciation by Juillermo: He-ar-rach-e. When asked for the definition: It is a word in the dictionary. Correct pronunciation (I think): Hi-arc-ky
  • Gnome is pronounced ge-no-me. The correct pronunciation is no-me (pretty sure).
  • "Can you use it in a sentence please?"
  • "Juillermo just said the word "ge-no-me".
  • Word: Rendezvous. Pronunciation by Juillermo: Ren-des-po-ze. Correct pronunciation (I think): I have no idea.
  • Word: Subtle. Pronunciation by Juillermo: Su-p-le. Correct pronunciation: Sub-tle.
  • Word: Porpoise.  Pronunciation by Juillermo: Por-po-sei. Correct prounciation (I think): Por-pus.
  • "May I have the definition?"
  • "I forgot."
Ok, bye!

Slice Of Life #120 - Mission Accomplished!

Mission acomplished! Currently, I am in Suvarnabhumi airport typing this post on a phone, so I am sorry if I make any errors (even though I can type well on phone, I type better on computer. Rice has just been served to our table. FYI, I am eating lunch now at a shop called Tate Cafe. They have been very nice because the have free wifi!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that means that I can write my blog here. I am also here watiting for our plane back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ah... Home sweet home.
Yeah! My spaghetti has came! Now, it's time to eat!
2 Minutes Later...
Why did I even order spaghetti? It tastes so bad!!! Fortunately, my mom has offered to change with me because she dosen't think the spaghetti tastes bad. Now I have delicious rice and spicy tomyam soup!
Anyways, back to the point. BTW, I just finished eating. Now, let's talk about what this post is supposed to be about. MY TRIP TO BHUTAN. Overall, the trip to Bhutan was really good! It was above average. We had a really good tour guide called Nima. I actually managed to find 6 spelling errors in my trip!
Errors:
1. I forgot what it was, but I know I found one.
2. "No pitures in the temple. Thank you." - Pitures is not a word. It's pictures.
3 & 4 "What People call the worm is actuall not a worm but a fungus." - Dosen't even make sense. People is not capitalized. It's not actuall, it's actual.
5. I forgot what the sentence was, but safety was spelled wrong. It was spelled saftey.
Other than that, there were a lot of dogs and cows/cattle. I kept a count for one day and ended up with 138 dogs! (I probably counted less, but that sure is a lot of dogs!)
Now, I have to go, so see you next week!

Slice Of Life #119 - I Literally Forgot - Tuesday 12th, June 2018 - Written on Wednesday 13th, 2018 (Because I Forgot)

Ok, how did I forget to write my Slice of Life (SOL). In my SOL experience, I have only forgotten to write two times, and now, it's gone up to three. At least ⅔ of the posts have been "replaced" (like, I wrote the slices on Wednesday). But again, I have an advantage. When it is 8:34 (the time now) for people in Malaysia, it is 8:34 at night, and vice versa. This gives me a big advantage, because even though I forgot to write yesterday and I am writing it on a Wednesday morning, it's still Tuesday in the US.
Currently, I have nothing to write about. Today, I am going on holiday to a country called Bhutan. We packed our bags yesterday, and I'm happy that we finally remembered to bring our "Neck-relaxation-pillow". I really like the "Neck-relaxation-pillow" (I'm just copying and pasting "Neck-relaxation-pillow" because it is too long to type), but we just forget to bring it every time.
Bhutan has the best air in the world. Ah... Fresh air. Because they are very eco-friendly and care about the environment, they limit the amount of people and planes that enter the country.
Like always, countries' temperature vary according to elevation. Located at a frightening 2,200 meters above sea level, the temperature is 15 to 26 °C in June, but temperatures can drop to −4 -16 °C in January. I checked the temperature, and it was around 20° - 9°.
    Sorry, got to go!

Slice Of Life #118 - Currently... - Tuesday 5th, June 2018

K'. So, what are we going to write about today? I really have nothing to write about. Aha! *light bulb lights up in brain* Let's do a currently post!

Currently...

  • Blogger is not being very nice to me. It is not letting me use commands (to put the text in the middle, I had to do it manually instead of just doing ctrl + shift + e)
  • Okay. Apparently, some commands are allowed and some are disabled.
  • I am watching a video about kids trying to find out the meaning about idioms.
  • Ok. A girl in this video is a noob. (I don't know what all of the idioms in the video are, but I know most of them.)
  • After watching the video, the girl that was a noob only got one correct and the smart girl only got one wrong.
  • Great. Now my computer says that noob and ok are not words. It's making me correct noob into boob and ok into OK.
  • I'm watching a video on the Jimmy Kimmel show. This is a spelling bee video. K'. Apparently the person competing looks like a miniature version of Donald Trump. FYI, he is really, really, rude.
  • I'm watching Ellen and Barack Obama's moments together (I'm kind of rushing this, so I'm sorry if there's bad grammar)
  • I'm watching a really funny spellling bee on the Jimmy Kimmeel show. Like, it's really funny. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8U7hHHg8G8
Sorry, I have to go now!

Resource & Trade Simulation - United States of America - Reflection - 5/6/2018, Tuesday

Resource & Trade Simulation - United States of America

President: Zhi Hong Chan

Minister of Finance: Hao Yu (Benny) Huang

Minister of Trade and Communications: Sahana Layli Kanippan

In our class, we had a resource & trade simulation. In this simulation, I was the president of the United States of America. We started out successfully, and we ended up even more successful.
In my opinion, I think that it was a team effort. My teammates, Sahana and Benny, both agreed with me that we would be playing it smart. At first, we were the richest and most successful country, and we knew that we didn’t want our country to become the worst country in the simulation.
Our primary natural resource was lumber and timber. At first, that was a pretty hard primary natural resource to deal with (for us). Because our primary natural resource was lumber and timber, we had to think about what could be made with wood. At that very moment, we were faced with a problem. It was hard to think of things that people would want from us. We didn’t only have to think about what people wanted, but we also had to think about the cost of making the thing. We would have to be able to cover the cost to get profit, so the price had to be high, too (not too high, because people don’t buy things if the price is too high).
We were researching on the computer, and that was when it struck us. ANTISEPTICS. MEDICINE. Apparently, trees were capable of being used to make medicine or antiseptics, so we decided to put that as one of the things that we sold.
Then, we had to decide what we were going to sell. Fuel and antiseptics were the most expensive and essential things for other countries. Then, it was a hard decision. Fuel or antiseptics. After a few minutes, we decided that we were going to sell antiseptics. After all, lots of countries already had fuel so we wouldn’t make as much profit from fuel as antiseptics.
Then, it was shopping time! I taught Sahana to bargain so we would be able to get more manpower and industries for a cheaper price. After all the trading, we were the most successful country. Yay!
Trade is important because it helps keep what countries have balanced (not exactly countries. Not only countries trade.) If countries have too much wood, then they can trade for other resources that they need. In the olden days, people not only traded with money, as they also traded with cows, food, etc. Now, people often trade with money, so trading is essential and beneficial to earn money and to get more resources.

There are a lot of benefits to trading. If people trade, they get more and more things. When people trade, they might lose that resource, but they get money in return. Other than that, when people trade, cultures spread. This means that good food and religions spread all over the world so people can experience the food and religion.

When people trade, they don’t always get what they want. Sometimes, people are so desperate for things that they may need to buy it for a really expensive amount. That was an example of what happened in this simulation. We had lots of industries and manpower, and not all countries had as much industries and manpower. We sold the industries and manpower for expensive prices, but countries were so desperate for industries or manpower, they had no choice but to buy our industries or manpower.

When it comes to trading, things are not always fair. It’s just like life. Life is not always fair. We experienced this in our trade simulation. When we started out, we were the richest country, so we had a “headstart”. If other countries are more successful in the start, then that means that they have an advantage over the other countries.
